Concept, design and development
Introducing the Tiny Brick, a quarter scale model of a three-cored building brick, conveniently doubling up as a desktop organiser and paper weight.
The 'red brick' is instantly recognisable on a global scale, with red brick buildings often listed and highly sought after. Although manufacture of clay bricks has declined over recent years due to the limitations on how high you can build with them, it is still an object highly associated with British values and has become a symbol of strength and tradition to many.
The scaled down apertures make it an ideal location for holding a select few pens and pencils, as well as other small items like clips and matches, giving this distinct symbol a new lease of life.
Made from British sourced 'Cheddar Red' brick clay, the bricks are wire cut and kiln fired, giving them a beautiful hue with a variable textured finish. The clay is extruded and cut in a scaled down process similar to the way in which these bricks have been made for over 30 years. The process gives each brick its own individual process marks, making every one unique.
